A giant hot air balloon shaped like an ice cream cone floats in the air, with the Dairy Queen logo prominently displayed on it. People gather around the balloon on a grassy field under a clear blue sky. I photographed the scene many decades ago in Kalamazoo, Michigan.

I began my photography career doing feature stories for local newspapers and magazines in Michigan. I have also done commercial studio and public relations work. But I always looked for creative imagery and image-making techniques, even while I was doing assignment work.
