About William Gunn
I began my photography career doing feature stories for local newspapers and magazines in Michigan. I have also done commercial studio and public relations work.
But I always looked for creative imagery and image-making techniques, even while I was doing assignment work. I attended every seminar I could, and read dozens of books by creative professionals over the years. The work I am presenting here is a result of that constant search to capture and share what I see and experience and create.
My work includes standard photography, digital paintings, layered compositions and abstracts. Some of my current work is centered on generated abstracts from my original files. It is inspired in large part by a conversation I had with a computer technician in the 80's. The new technology has allowed me to put those concepts into practice. The result is the work you see here.
One memory of my time selling at art fairs that stands out to this day is a man who bought a small framed print of an Amish farmer plowing his field with a horse drawn plow. He was a farmer himself, and he said the picture spoke to him. His reaction to my work is much of what continues to drive my passion to this day.
